AEC 2009 Project 1 is all ready to go!

Last month 14 club members sat down to test out my apron design and and Pattern with directions.  The pattern itself was a remake of one that my mother had made when she was first married.  All her sisters could sew and for those who have met my Aunt Norma (perhaps at the AEC in 2006), you know how true that is.  From their head, they could whip out a pattern and make it fit. Aprons were the norm.  From working aprons, to hostess aprons, you would get up each day and don the appropriate style of apron for the task at hand. The resurgence of the apron and finding mom's among all her special things inspired this project.  The design is one of my own doodles. All of us had fun making it and I can't wait until the AEC to share the fun. (It's reversible).

Aunt Norma still continues to create items of her own, mostly home decor now.  Little things, like new cushions for the sofa!  That would be an all month project for me, but for her, it is all in a day's work!

A few of the club members brought their aprons back to this months meeting so out came the camera, which is no surprise to you I am sure. But to see the front and back of the aprons their is a slide video here on the blog. We created them using "retro techniques" while sewing it together to honor the tradition of the Apron!  Quick, easy and cute.  That meets all my criteria.

I just got home from work and already smell the fresh bread and homemade apple pie baking in the oven. As I round the corner heading toward the kitchen, I spotted my lovely wife Cookie - draped in this adorable (and sexy) apron that she quickly made in her spare time, when she was not cooking or cleaning or mending my pants. She immediately greets me with a smile, a kiss, and a martini just the way I like it - shaken... not stirred.

Ring...ring - what, what. Oh no, this was all a dream. Darn that alarm clock. Well, got to get ready for work :-)

Cookie's loving husband... Ron

Oh, Cookie! You are fun, posting this pic to your blog! I appreciated the chance to test-sew your darling apron! I love the "reversability" of it, too. Thanks for doing this! QuirkyKim

Cookie, the apron looks great! I guess I am going to have to sneak into this class (that is, if they let me). One thing though. I think I will need to make mine either in black or plaid or something like that. I am a really, really messy cook! LOL

I have typed this so many times trying to get it to take that for all I know it may appear six or seven times. However, I still love the Apron! It is both feminine AND Retro! If I can sneak into the class, I will have to make it in black or some other dark color as I am a really, really messy cook. Will Ron wear one the next time I come over and he makes that fabulous guacamole??????

I's no surprise with the way things are going today that people want to return to the 50's and these aprons sure are a reminder. With that apron on, you could be the new and improved "Donna Reed". What do they say, what's old is new again?
