Getting straight to the Point... the sewing point that is!

So how did I get those points on that pillow at midnight?  I realize that there are many references to creating special points for quilts and heirloom items such as Shark Teeth and Prairie Points.  There are also amazing rulers, "guides", to help you create them.

However, I have to thank my dear friend, Mae for showing me the quickest and easiest way to accomplish them when there is no special ruler in sight.  She talked me through it about 6 years ago. Coincidentally, that is the same length of time since my Martha Pullen sharks teeth template ruler was misplaced.  Ms. Mae saved me the night before a project was to be finished.

Now I say with great glee that if you are a person who uses a ruler for everything, this might drive you crazy --- but I love it because I am into eyeballing most of my projects.  And perhaps that is why I can crazy quilt but not fair so well with piece quilting.

So for those of you who are like me, this video is for you:

Pretty niffty Cookie. A nice basic way to do points.

Thank you so much for the info and video on the Prairie Points!!!!!!!!!! What a wonderful technique! I am going to teach my grand children this weekend, how to do that. The girls are 11 and 9 and have been sewing since they were 6 and 4, respectively. They love new ideas and innovations and will absolutely love this.

Plus...we are starting their American Girl doll clothes this weekend, and I can see a Prairie Point "stomacher" for a vintage dress for Samantha (doll) and maybe an apron for Addy (another doll). I am certain w/ the birth of your new grand daughter, you will soon become acquainted w/ the whole American Girl doll family (if you haven't already!)

Thanks again...Hugs...Kathlene :o)
