I will use the test stitch out for an appliqué on a coordinating garment, but it would work well for a secret pocket, or exposed pocket if it were for an older child. Both front panels have been embroidered with the whale in two different sizes, using the built in sizing feature on the embroidery machine.
With the front panels and sleeves completed, I laid the paper pattern over these peaces, positioning the designs where I wanted them to be located.
Once satisfied with placement, I trimmed down the fabrics to the size of the patterns.

With the front panels and sleeves trimmed up, cut the lining fabric. For the back piece, cut out two of the coordinating fabric, one piece of fabric slightly larger than the pattern. Quilt the back outside fabric to a light layer of cotton batting. Once back panel is quilted, then trim to pattern size.Assemble jacket according to the directions in the Simplicity pattern. Several pattern options are listed in the post for 11/26/2012.
Several classes to teach this week, but my completed jacket will be up shortly! (And another holiday gift will be done.)

Love the whale. Thanks for the FB Freebie! I know that your granddaughter will have fun wearing it!
You are quite welcome, and there are several freebies on the Facebook Fan page, too.
