DIY: Handy fabric tray made easy...

Create your own fabric tray to contain all  working threads, snips and sewing feet in this easy to pack for the classroom project.

Supplies: white cotton 10”x10” square, 3” x 40” strip of fashion fabric, 12”x12”  square of fashion fabric, 10”x10” fusible fleece, Cutaway to fit selected hoop,12x12” TimTex or heavy weight craft interfacing, embroidery 40 weight thread to match fabric, matching all purpose sewing thread, bobbin for embroidery, bobbin for sewing, 4 Pieces of 9” ribbon, rotary cutter, ruler and mat. Equipment: Sewing and Embroidery Machine & Iron.

Step 1: Embroider design in an 8x8 area on white fabric. Fuse Fleece to white fabric and hoop with cutaway stabilizer.  Stitch and trim away excess stabilizer giving you 3 layers cut to 9x9 size

Use Cutaway & Fusible Fleece for the stabilizer. (Online resource: Terradonembroidery.com in the event your dealer does not carry Fusible Fleece)

Step 2: Add a 3 inch wide border on all four sides, using a 1/4” seam allowance.

Step 3: Place 12”x12” Tim Tex to wrong side of newly created square.  Stitch the block to the TimTex by stitching in the ditch around the white square.  Stitch the outer edge of the square to the Tim Tex.

Step 4: Place 12x12 Fashion Fabric right sides together over embroidered square. If necessary, trim the squares to the same size.  Stitch the two squares using a 1/4” seam allowance. Leave a 4”-5” opening centered at the bottom.  Trim seams to a scant 1/8”.  Turn right side out. Top stitch 1/8” from the edge on all four sides while sealing up the 4-5” opening.

Step 5: Fold corners in half and stitch straight down.  Tie 4 bows from ribbon. Glue or stitch bows in place.

If you prefer no bows and finished corners, you can fold each pointed corner to the right and stitch in place.
